Gundry MD Olive oil: Why we don't recommend it.

It's organic and endorsed by a famous physician. But that's about where the positives end. Here's why we think you're better off with another olive oil.

Lack of transparency

Extra virgin olive oil is a competitive market, and for good reason. It's a natural product that has been shown in the science to improve health markers in a wide variety of people. So I wonder, why in a competitive market would a company choose not to publish important information about the quality of it's oil? How many polyphenols are actually contained in the oil in mg/Kg? It says the oil comes from Moroccan olives, but what type of olive? It seems odd not to include this information for an audience that is clearly looking to improve their health. Other producers do not seem to have trouble with this and publish this information and more. Take ONSURI for example, their oil is made with Arbosana olives on a family owned grove in Jordan, and contains 584 mg worth of polyphenols in every kg of oil. This way, you know exactly what you're getting for your money. Leading us on nicely to our next point...

Price

Pricing for Gundry MD polyphenol oil

At current pricing, Gundry's Polyphenol-Rich olive oil is selling for $134.85 for 3 8.5 fl oz (250ml) bottles. This works out to be $17.98 per 100 ml. For a bit of context, ONSURI olive oil works out at $5.8 per 100ml... over three times cheaper. And this is an oil that has traceability back to a family owned grove that undertake and publish testing on the polyphenols within their oil.

Amazon reviews

Amazon reviews of Gundry MD olive oil

There is also a surprisingly high number of 1 star reviews for this oil on Amazon. Currently about 16% of the reviews are 1 star, leaving the overall total at a 4 out of 5 which is never a great sign on Amazon. A lot of the 1 star reviews talk about a chemical taste and scent.

Others complained about being misled around the size of the bottle, surprised to only receive a tiny 250ml. We can only agree, the actual size of the bottle is not very clearly advertised and a 250ml bottle would not last long at all with an ordinary serving size of 2 - 3 tablespoons a day.

Conclusion

Overall, this oil does not publish enough information for us to properly examine its quality in order to justify its extremely hefty price tag. For this reason we would recommend you to support another producer that is putting all of the information on the table, at a much lower price point too.
